Appointments

The fellowship, supported by a three-year commitment from the Provost, offers a renewable nine-month fixed-term appointment with a structured transition plan to a tenure-track Assistant Professor role. If a fellow transitions to the tenure track, their salary will be competitive within the college. The Dean’s Office provides annual research funding for two years to support travel, archives access, and transcription, along with a one-time relocation allowance. Professional development support is also available to aid in career progression.

The two-year transition plan includes mentorship, regular evaluations, and structured guidance to help fellows produce research and creative work at top-tier RI research institutions and leading arts and humanities institutions. Regular meetings with leadership establish expectations for publication, reappointment, promotion, and tenure, with a first-year review ensuring progress. Additionally, the fellowship incorporates summer teaching opportunities to further prepare fellows for a successful transition into tenure-track positions.
