Judy Putnam is an assistant instructor for Capital News Service, a public affairs journalism class.
For nearly three decades, Putnam worked as a columnist, reporter and editor at daily newspapers in Michigan, Texas and Mississippi.
For 17 years, she was part of the MLive's Capital Bureau, covering state government for the chain's eight Michigan newspapers.
In addition, she worked in communications for a public policy nonprofit, the Michigan League for Public Policy.
Most recently, she was news columnist for the Lansing State Journal, retiring in 2020.
Putnam earned her bachelor's degree in journalism from Michigan State University. She is a longtime board member of the Mid-Michigan chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and a board member of the Michigan Coalition for Open Government.
