The annual conference of the International Communications Association (ICA) takes place May 25–29, 2023 in a hybrid capacity with sessions taking place virtually as well as in person. The in-person portion of the conference will be at the Sheraton Centre Hotel in Toronto. ComArtSci will have a presence as panelists, presenters, discussants and session chairs.
Research contributions from ComArts faculty and graduate students examine how "authenticity has become a variable, rather than a constant, in public discourses and popular culture across the globe, and with what relational, social, political, and cultural implications."

Professor Thorson joined the College of Communication Arts faculty at MSU in fall, 2016. Prior, she was Associate Dean for Graduate Studies, and Research Director of the Reynolds Journalism Institute at the Missouri School of Journalism. Thorson holds the Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Minnesota, and attended undergraduate school at Macalester College.

Franklin J. Boster (Ph.D., Michigan State University, 1978) is a professor in the Department of Communication at Michigan State University where he teaches class in social influence, methods, and statistics
Sandi W. Smith is a University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Communication at Michigan State University.
David Ewoldsen, Ph.D. brings an interdisciplinary approach to the study of communication and the media, and draws from communication scholarship, social and cognitive psychology, cognitive science, and cognitive anthropology. A respected researcher and scholar, his most recent ventures have focused on racism and the media, comprehension of media messages, cooperative video game play, entertainment, and the role of attitudes in risky health behavior.
Jim Dearing (Ph.D., University of Southern California) is the Brandt Endowed Professor in the Department of Communication at Michigan State University.
Ron Tamborini (Ph.D., Indiana University) is the Director of Doctoral Studies and a Professor in the Department of Communication at Michigan State University where he teaches courses in media process and methods of communication inquiry.
Dr. Monique Mitchell Turner is Professor and Chair of the Department of Communication at Michigan State University. Prior to this appointment, she served as Associate Dean of MPH programs at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University.
Tim P. Vos is Professor and Director of the Michigan State University School of Journalism. He is a past president of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC), the field’s leading research, teaching, and service organization.
