Special Screening: The Road to Little Rock and Q&A with Ernest Green

Join WKAR and MSU for a special screening of The Road to Little Rock and conversation with Ernest Green on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. in WKAR Studio A.

WKAR and ComArtSci presents a documentary screening of "The Road to Little Rock," which tells the courageous story of one visionary judge and nine determined teenagers who demonstrated enduring honor, determination and responsibility. This story begins in 1957 as nine African-American teenagers seek enrollment at an all-white high school in Little Rock, Arkansas. In 1957, many school districts continued to ignore the 1954 Supreme Court ruling of Brown v Board of Education, which declared that segregation in public schools was unconstitutional.

One of the Little Rock nine, MSU homecoming Grand Marshal Ernest Green and MSU College of Social Science Alumni will be at the screening for a Q&A mediated by College of Communication Arts & Sciences Dean Prabu David following the film. 

This event is cosponsored by the Office for Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives, The MSU College of Social Science and the MSU Alumni Association.

Ernest Green: Green helped integrate Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1957. After graduating in 1958, he was awarded an anonymous scholarship to MSU, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in sociology. It later became known that the scholarship was sponsored by then-president of MSU, John Hannah. Under President Jimmy Carter, Green served four years working as Assistant Secretary of Labor. Later in his career, Green worked for 30 years as a managing director for a Wall Street investment firm.Green and other members of the Little Rock Nine were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal by President Bill Clinton in 1999.
