Amanda Vasas has served as faculty member for the Department of Advertising + Public Relations since 2014. She teaches principles of public relations; public relations storytelling for digital, video and print; writing for public relations; public relations strategy and ethics in a digital world; intermediate social media and public relations techniques; and crisis communications. As part of her PR 320: PR Storytelling for Digital, Video and Print course, Vasas oversees editorial production for "The Brief," a collection of stories to connect past and present Spartans with the Department of Advertising + Public Relations.
As public relations field experience program director, Vasas developed and leads MSU's PR Field Experience Program, through which all undergraduate public relations majors complete and track 250 required PR Field Experience hours, including for-credit and not-for-credit internships, PR research experiences and more. In this role, Vasas serves as a mentor and advocate for students in their journey to graduation and beyond. She also oversees and coordinates approved enrollment, instruction and student evaluation of PR 493: PR Internship for Credit. Vasas is director of MSU's Public Relations Minor. She serves on the Central Michigan Public Relations Society of America executive board as professional advisor to MSU's Public Relations Student Society of America.
Vasas has managed the Department of Advertising + Public Relations Scholarship Program, which awards undergraduate and graduate recipients up to $100,000 annually. Prior to joining the department, Vasas was a communications manager for Marketing Communications at Michigan State University, where she was responsible for copywriting, editing and media relations for the Division of Residential and Hospitality Services. Her background includes work at John Bailey & Associates Inc. Public Relations, a full-service national public relations agency where she contributed to more than 10 client accounts, ranging from nonprofit to health care to government.
Vasas holds a bachelor’s degree in communication and public relations specialization from Michigan State University.
