ComArtSci Big Issues Poster Competition

Description

With the 2020 Presidential election less than 12 months away, the ComArtSci 2020 Issues Poster Competition challenges students to design posters that will raise awareness of one of five big issues that will inform the 2020 Presidential Debates: student loan debt, income inequality, cybersecurity, and the electoral college. Students will be charged with providing accurate information in a creative and accessible way. 

Criteria

Participants will be provided with a brief of one of five "big issues" to be addressed by 2020 Presidential candidates (e.g., student loan debt, income inequality, cyber security, electoral college, etc.). Participants will be tasked to use this information to design a poster that meets the following criteria: 

  1. Raises awareness of the issues 

  2. Provides accurate information on issues in creating and engaging way 

  3. Inspires voters to begin doing their own research to be more informed 

The posters should be strictly informative in nature, and not represent the viewpoint of any political party. Issues will be randomly assigned, participants can ask for another issue if they have concerns or do not feel comfortable with the issue they are assigned.

Rules and Details

  • Must be a ComArtSci student to participate;

  • Poster must be your original work;

  • Final poster size must be 24 x 36 and submitted as a high resolution JPEG, or print-ready PDF File;

  • Must include a combination of type/text/imagery 

  • Must include a 100 word description of what you learned in the process of creating your poster.

  • Poster must be accurate--check your facts. Posters that include misinformation or facts that have not been vetted and verified will be disqualified.

  • Must include the MSUFCU logo (download logo below)

Submission Instructions

All entries must be sent from your MSU email account. Direct all entries to comartscicc@gmail.com

  1. Create an email with the subject that includes your issue and your last name(s) for example, Electoral College -McKenzie

  2. Attach your poster file with the same label as the subject

  3. Once your poster is submitted, complete the online entry form here

Display, Judging, and Voting

A panel of distinguished judges will determine 10 finalists to be announced on February 28th, and then public voting will open to decide the winners. A scholarship of $1000 will be awarded to the poster with the most public votes, $500 awarded to 2nd place, and $250 awarded to 3rd. The posters of the 10 finalists and selected others, will be displayed throughout the college.

Timeline

  • Final submissions due: Monday, February 24th.

  • Finalists announced: Monday, March 9th.

  • Display and voting open to the public: March 9th - 16th

  • Winners announced: Tuesday, March 17th.
