Advertising senior Grace Daniel spent her summer as a marketing account manager for Desserts After Dark in New York City, a boutique dessert company specializing in healthy and artisanal desserts. Being part of a small team, Daniel quickly realized she would need to think on her feet in order to engage influencers.
She credits this environment for the development of her social media and graphic design skills. Daniel worked to create content that would expand the presence of the brand beyond South Brooklyn. She also assisted the company by planning events for clients.
“Seek a wide range of opportunities, and seek them often. It is hard to know what you love to do without trying many different things,” said Daniel.
Breaking into the field gave Daniel the option to engage with influencers, plan events, make graphics, and experience a new city. Working on campaigns, and in a freelance environment, gave Daniel a push in a new direction and helped her develop a deeper understanding for the passions that may inspire a future career path.
Daniel used her resources within the ComArtSci career center to help propel her into the workforce by not only attending job fairs, but seeking career counseling on her own time as well. She received a scholarship that helped her fully explore her internship opportunities. Daniel claims that she found success “unconventionally,” insisting that without this internship illuminating the field she does not want to pursue, she never would have followed her true passion.
Daniel is now concentrating on paths that will lead her to a career in copywriting and public relations.
