From East Lansing to Washington, D.C.

One could say Spartan alumnus, and recent Michigan State University Strategic Communication M.A. graduate, Josh Paciorek has made it. He’s gone from East Lansing to the state capital and now, Washington, D.C.

With all the professional accomplishments, there was still one thing Paciorek always wanted to earn, but it always seemed out of reach with his busy life: a master’s degree. He couldn’t figure out how to make it happen until he heard about MSU StratCom.

While a political theory and constitutional democracy major and public relations minor at MSU, Paciorek was drawn to policy and working in politics. As an intern, he helped pass Kelsey’s Law, a bipartisan law which prohibits teens from using their phone while driving.

During his search for a master’s program, Paciorek found out about the new StratCom program that was just about to launch. He said: “It was a perfect fit. And as an added bonus, it was completely online.”

Paciorek became one of the first students of the program, which formally began in January 2017.

As a student, Paciorek found MSU StratCom courses to be meaningful and useful. And, he said he has appreciated the diverse network of classmates who have various areas of expertise. He said he has enjoyed the scope and size of the program, appreciating the variation of the classes offered.

“To have this program fit so nicely into what’s happening in my life right now makes a lot of sense,” he said. “The program is helping me today and it’s going to be valuable to me years down the road in whatever I want to do next.”
