Bio

Kathryn Genoa-Obradovich, Ph.D., CCC-SLP is an assistant professor in the Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at Michigan State University. She is also a certified speech-language pathologist with over ten years of clinical experience in evaluating and treating a variety of patient populations within acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, and outpatient settings. Her favorite area of patient care however involves evaluation and rehabilitation of communication and swallowing in patients who have Head and Neck Cancer (HNC).

Dr. Genoa's primary areas of research are two pronged – one dedicated to healthcare and clinical management of dysphagia and HNC, and the other concentrated on scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) with a focus on gameful design.  She implements the use of immersive technologies, such as Extended Reality (XR), across her research and teaching.  She has completed supplementary certifications in “Serious Game Design” and “Teaching and Learning in Postsecondary Education” to enhance these interests.

Dr. Genoa is a proud double alumni having received both her B.A. and Ph.D in CSD from MSU. She also has her M.S. in Speech Language Pathology from Rush University in Chicago, Illinois.
