ComArtSci Ignite Summer Bridge Program

ComArtSci Ignite is a 5-day residential bridge program intended to support student’s transition from high school to college and allow them to learn more about our academic programs. The program is open to current high school seniors admitted to MSU as incoming Freshmen for the 2021-2022 academic year. Students may have declared a ComArtSci major in their application to MSU or have an interest in exploring majors and/or minors in ComArtSci. Choosing a major can be overwhelming, and students often struggle to determine which program is best suited to their skills and career interests. The MSU Ignite program will allow students to explore their interests and become more familiar with college before setting foot on campus this fall.

To learn more about ComArtSci Ignite, students and families are invited to attend one of the following upcoming information sessions (sign-up required):

  • Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 4:30 PM register here
  • Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 6:30 PM register here

Program Overview

Over the course of a week, students will design an ad campaign with the direction of ComArtSci faculty. The students will then present their work to their parents and peers, for a chance to display their ad campaign in front of the entire student body at the team’s high school. The program offers students added support, through a variety of mentors and connections created with their peers. As the MSU Ignite program grows, the college will begin to search for mentors who can lend their skills and talents to the summer bridge academy.

Ignite began with a pilot program to serve as a potential pipeline into MSU’s AD+PR program at ComArtSci. Students are able to visit campus on in order to learn about Advertising and Public Relations and see what life is like on campus. AD+PR Chairperson and Professor Teresa Mastin, Ph.D. and her team knew the best way to introduce these high school students to the college mindset was to immerse them in the Michigan State experience.
