Social Media, Multimedia, Traditional Media and Public Relations
Many journalism students specialize in media relations, a form of public relations. Media relations professionals are hired by companies across the globe to communicate messages for different audiences, who use different media for different purposes.
Knowing how to write and visualize news and information in different forms for different media will make you successful in getting information published and shared with key audiences.
Students would complete 12 credits for the Media Relations Concentration from the following options:
- JRN 206 (3 credits) Video Storytelling with Cell Phones
- JRN 310 (3 credits) Photojournalism
- JRN 336 (3 credits) Design for Media
- JRN 402 (1 credit) Public Relations Topics in Journalism
Complete at least two additional credits from the following course options:
- JRN 345 (3 credits) Images and Messages
- JRN 402 (1 credit) Public Relations Topics in Journalism, class is repeatable with a different topic
- JRN 492 (1 credit) Bias Busters section, class is repeatable with a different topic
- ADV 402* (1 credit) Public Relations Topics in Journalism, class is repeatable with a different topic
- COM 402* (1 credit) Public Relations Topics in Journalism, class is repeatable with a different topic
*ADV 402 and COM 402 are only open to students that have been accepted to the minor in Public Relations.
