Ying Cheng, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Communication, has accepted a tenure-track position with California State University, San Bernardino, effective this Fall. She is scheduled to defend her dissertation this summer.
Ms. Cheng will become Assistant Professor in the Department of Management, Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration, with responsibilities for conducting research, teaching undergraduate and graduate students, and collaborating with CSUSB colleagues in a business communication lab for studying and improving communication skills among business students.
“Ying has been a model doctoral student for us,” said Jim Dearing, Department Chairperson. “She has not only done wonderful work on research teams and in her courses, she has also been a great colleague around the department. She’s here all the time and is close with her cohort. That’s how you thrive in these intensive programs.”
Cheng studies how message features affect persuasion outcomes, as well as the key role that interpersonal communication can play in relation to the effects of media involvement. The CSUSB Department of Management was also impressed with Ms. Cheng’s experience working for two years in the MSU Ernst & Young Communication Center in the Department of Accounting and Information Systems.
