Sales team earns second place at national team selling competition

The Sales Leadership Minor sales team earned second place overall at the prestigious National Team Selling Competition (NTSC), hosted this month at Indiana University.

The team—Tyler Crockett, Lina Haas, Drew Thacker, and Riley Wiegand—represented MSU in the three-day event, which drew top sales talent from 24 universities nationwide. The students were coached by Tamara Schantz, a new MSU faculty member and co-advisor for the Global Sales Leadership Society.

Hosted annually by Indiana University, the NTSC challenges student teams to navigate a complex, real-world sales scenario requiring strategic preparation, critical thinking, and professional communication. Teams are judged by industry professionals on their ability to build client relationships and deliver persuasive, solutions-based pitches.

MSU’s strong finish highlights the depth of its Sales Leadership Minor, one of the leading programs in the country and the only one of its kind to leverage the strengths of two nationally ranked colleges—the College of Communication Arts and Sciences and the Eli Broad College of Business, along with multiple corporate partnerships.

“This achievement reflects the students’ professionalism, teamwork and ability to think on their feet in a competitive, high-stakes environment,” said Jennifer Rumler-Rokita, managing director of the Sales Leadership Minor. “It’s a wonderful example of how experiential learning prepares our students for success in the sales profession.”

With only a limited number of universities offering formal sales programs, MSU’s continued success at national competitions underscores the growing importance of structured sales education and real-world experience for aspiring business leaders.
