ComArtSci Fund Eases Student Burden of Buying Textbooks

The ComArtSci Student Emergency Fund is collecting money to help students by the textbooks they cannot afford but need to succeed.

The average cost of textbooks for an undergraduate student at Michigan State is more than $1,000 each year. Many students cannot afford such a cost, and without required textbooks, it can be difficult for students to achieve success in their courses.

ComArtSci recognized this problem and turned it into an opportunity to help students achieve their potential by providing the resources they need. Using a crowdfunding campaign, the ComArtSci Student Emergency Fund has been developed to aid students in purchasing the textbooks they cannot afford.

Anyone can donate to the fund, which will be accepting donations on MSU’s Giving website until March 5, 2019. When a student cannot afford a textbook for one of their classes, ComArtSci will use these funds to purchase the book that student needs. At the end of the semester, the student will return the book so students in subsequent semesters can use it as well.

Despite living in a digital world, textbooks are still important at MSU, and they are a financial burden for many. ComArtSci is looking to its alumni and supporters to make a difference in the lives and education of current students.
