Advertising Student Creates Campaigns to Make the World a Better Place

Advertising senior Isabelle Fox got the taste of agency life as an art direction intern this summer at Boncom in Salt Lake City, where she worked with clients who are striving to make the world a better place.

“Every day [was] not just working to make people buy a random product but change people's perspectives and make a positive impact in the world,” Fox said. “[It] was incredibly meaningful.”

Fox had her hands on various projects from day one, such as creating graphics, storyboarding commercials and ideating campaigns and brand identities for various clients. But there was one specific opportunity that was most special to her.

“My favorite memory is getting to see a graphic I created for Utah's pitch to host the Olympics in 2034, at a huge watch party in the city alongside co-workers and hundreds of Utahns,” Fox said. “Seeing my work in Paris was a proud moment.”

The types of projects she contributed to opened a whole new network of people Fox might want to collaborate with in the future.

“It helped me consider the types of clients I want to work [with],” Fox said. “Boncom is very cause-based, which was amazing, but I had not given that a ton of consideration before.”

Collaboration was key for Fox in an agency setting, not only with industry professionals, but with fellow interns as well.

“I learned that it is important to have a steady partner to work with and collaborate with,” Fox said. “It is just as valuable to adapt to different styles of how people work and their craft and keeping a strong sense of personal style throughout.”

Fox says that her eagerness for the position is what helped her ultimately land the job and gain these significant skills and relationships.

“Of course, it is important to have a strong portfolio and relevant skills and experience," Fox said. “But it ultimately came down to my enthusiasm and eagerness to learn and my passion for my career in the industry.”
