The Student Perceptions of Learning Survey (SPLS) is a new online survey, replacing the SIRS form, that will collect feedback from students in all courses. MSU says the responses will be used to:
- Provide instructors, graduate teaching assistants, and teaching units with feedback on their instructional practices.
- Contribute to instructor retention, promotion, tenure, and salary decisions.
- Provide students with information to help them make decisions about which courses to take.
The SPLS pilot phase began in June 2023 and continued through the end of the summer session. In fall 2023, the SPLS will replace the SIRS system with eight basic quantitative questions provided by the university. The College of Communication Arts and Sciences, and individual units, are working to develop additional questions for use in later semesters.
On Oct. 20, Dr. Bree Holtz provided an information session about the new system. The recording of that session is below.
