The purpose of the Michigan State American Advertising Federation (AAF) shall be to provide its members with a comprehensive advertising education that mirrors the function of a real advertising agency as closely as possible. Unlike an advertising class, which focuses on one aspect of advertising, MSU AAF gives its members the opportunity to see how every aspect works together to make a complete campaign.

MSU Association for Women in Sports Media

The MSU Chapter of the Association for Women in Sports Media is an organization looking for women with a passion for sports and an interest in pursuing sports media as a profession. Our organization provides a great way to learn from professionals while networking and gaining experience along the way. Meetings will be held every other week in the Communications Arts and Sciences building. Guest speakers will present during each meeting, giving members the opportunity to absorb professional advice and create contacts in the industry.

MSU Corporate Retail Association

CRA connects MSU students with the retail industry.

The Corporate Retail Association (CRA) serves to educate all majors about the many aspects of the retail industry. Our association will invite a diverse group of corporate representatives to present information regarding unique career paths in the retail industry. MSU DocFilms

The MSU Documentary Filmmakers Club gives students the opportunity to produce short documentary films and learn about the production process. Regular meetings are held to improve production skills and to shoot and plan projects. The club films a few documentaries each year focusing on academic and social topics, and has worked on many projects for other organizations around campus.

Focal Point

Focal Point is the name of a student-produced newscast at Michigan State University.We record newscasts 12 times per school year at the studios in the Communication Arts and Sciences building.

The purpose of the newscast is to not only provide news and information to the MSU community, but to give students the opportunity to learn about broadcasting in all forms: reporting, shooting and editing video and writing. Students enroll in JRN 406 and they produce most of the content and anchor the newscasts. However, we are also an MSU Registered Student Organization and any student on campus can come to meetings and taping nights. They can work various positions in the control room or in the studio: camera operators, audio board, video switcher, director, teleprompter, tape machines, graphics, associate producer and lighting. Focal Point airs on WKAR-World Channel (23-4) in the Lansing, Michigan market. It's also streamed using mogulus.com at SpartanTV.

The Global Sales Leadership Society (GSLS) is a student-run organization that works hand-in-hand with the Sales Communication Specialization. GSLS today has over 100 student members that interact with our numerous corporate sponsors who hire in every major U.S. city. Michigan State University International Relations Organization (IRO) is a competitive, collegiate Model United Nations organization that participates in conferences around the continent. We are an undergraduate student organization dedicated to promoting the understanding and recognition of global issues through debate and discussion. Members need not be scholars of history, communication, political theory or international relations to be a part of the group. Instead, IRO members are those interested in and dedicated to the exchange of ideas and the betterment of our world. MSU Model United Nations

Michigan State University Model United Nations (MSUMUN) is a 3-day Model United Nations conference open to high schools across the continent. It has built a reputation for exciting, stimulating debate and crises during the day and fun social events at night. MSUMUN is proud to host students from all levels of experience, from Model UN vets to the newest delegates. Our conference is staffed entirely by MSU students, many of whom compete on a world stage with the renowned MSU Model UN team. MSUMUN is a conference run by delegates, for delegates: each year, we strive to put on a conference that we would want to attend.MSUMUN seeks to provide an educational and social opportunity for both delegates and staff members to expand their knowledge of international affairs and global politics, including, but not limited to, the activities of the United Nations.

MSU NSSLHA

We are the Michigan State University chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA). NSSLHA is a national organization for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in the study of speech-language pathology and/or audiology. As members of MSU NSSLHA, students have the opportunity to network with other students who have similar interests, meet professionals working in the field and participate in a variety of activities. Michigan State NSSLHA chapter members are involved in various educational seminars, community service and fundraising activities. We support and volunteer at local schools, hospitals and retirement homes.

MSU Public Relations Student Society of America

The Ned S. Hubbell Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) at Michigan State University advances the profession of public relations through professional partnerships, competition, non-profit work, development programs and involvement with the chapter organization. PRSSA has two missions: (1) serve members by enhancing their knowledge of public relations and providing access to professional development opportunities and (2) serve the public relations profession by helping to develop high quality, well-prepared professionals to pursue experiences in public relations and to cultivate a mutually advantageous relationship between students and professionals. Today, the PRSSA has more than 8,500 members in 270 chapters on college campuses across the country.

Since its inception in 1995, Michigan State University Society for News Design (SND) has expanded the knowledge of student visual journalists through meeting with professionals, design projects and the affiliates' annual design contest. SND alumni have worked for The Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, The Virginian-Pilot, New Orleans Times-Picayune, Arizona Republic and The Oregonian, among others.

Sandbox Street Teams

Sandbox Street Teams are groups of extremely talented, multidisciplinary students who choose their projects and work together to create portfolio-worthy media products and, quite often, change lives and make a positive impact on the world. For instance, one group of seven students from several majors raised money and traveled thousands of miles by car visiting non-profits along the way and helping them redesign and build their communication products such as websites, logos, brochures, etc. Another Street Team helped homeless children in Lansing become photographers and have a gallery showing of their work. Students must show work samples to join a Street Team.

Students Interested in Cosplay & Costuming

Are you interested in cosplay, costuming in general, prop-making/armor-making and/or want to learn more about these topics? This student group is for all levels, including the shy newbie and veteran costumer. Bring your questions, curiosity, and creativity. Cosplay is the creation and wearing of costumes outside of Halloween, usually for conventions. Topics include (but are not limited to!) anime, video game, book, movie or TV characters, monsters, and unusual creations.

The Undergraduate Communication Association (UCA) is the defining voice of students pursuing Communication studies within the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University. VIM Magazine

VIM Magazine is a registered student organization at Michigan State University. The name “VIM” comes from the MSU fight song and means enthusiasm and vitality. The first issue was released on November 1, 2010. VIM Magazine features content related to fashion, beauty, health, interior design and college life at MSU. Entirely student-run, VIM is published bi-yearly in the fall and spring semesters and distributed to students at no cost.

VIM is more than a magazine. The organization has grown immensely in its short existence. As one of the top ten largest RSO’s at MSU, VIM provides students with an opportunity to gain valuable fashion-related experience in a variety of fields including advertising, professional writing and editing, graphic design, photography, finance marketing, public relations, video production and editing, social media, event planning and more. At VIM’s weekly meetings, guest speakers from a variety of industries speak to students about professional development and career-related advice.
