Oghenetega (Tega) Ologbo is a Ph.D student in the Information and Media Program (Advertising and Public Relations Department). Her primary research interest lies in the intersection of public relations (PR), feminism, activism, and social change. Her second interest explores PR pedagogy within PR education, student-run firms, and work-based learning. In recognition of her strong potential for excellence in research and scholarship, she was awarded a Brandt Graduate Assistant in the ADPR department and also a Kaplan Fellowship.
Before joining MSU, she earned her masters degree in Communication and Advocacy with a concentration in Strategic Communication from James Madison University, Virginia; a Master of Business Administration from Nexford University; and a bachelors degree in Mass Communication with a concentration in Public Relations and Advertising from Redeemer’s University, Osun State, Nigeria
Tega has over 10 years of professional experience working in public relations across top PR agencies and reputation management firms and has produced substantial research within the field of public relations and communication. She is an associate member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA)
Her work has been presented at conferences like the National Communication Association; Eastern Communication Association; African, African American Diaspora; and Engagement Scholarship Consortium. One of her research where she examined power and storytelling as it relates to how PR practitioners across four countries shape women’s stories, was awarded Top Student Paper in the Public Relations Division at the 2026 NCA Conference (First Place Category)
Other awards include: 2026 Top Student Intern Award by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV), 2026 Outstanding Graduate Student in the JMU School of Communication Studies department, Chester Berger Award for Excellence in Public Relations by the PRSA Foundation, and Engaged Citizen of the Year by the JMU Office of Student Life.
When she’s not doing research, she likes to listen to music, read fiction and non-fiction books, watch funny TikTok videos, take on fun adventures, and lift at the gym.
