Dr. Matea Čaluk (she/her) is a faculty member in the Department of Advertising and Public Relations in the College of Communication Arts & Sciences at Michigan State University. Dr. Čaluk brings more than 16 years of scholar-practitioner experience across higher education and student affairs. Her professional background spans strategic communications, brand management, social media strategy, graphic design, storytelling, event planning, and organizational communication.
Her teaching and professional practice explore how communication can shape experiences, build connection, and drive meaningful change. Her research interests focus on executive leadership decision-making, particularly how leaders navigate complex decisions during times of crisis and uncertainty, and the impacts of identity on decision-making.
Dr. Čaluk has received numerous professional and community recognitions, including the Inclusive Excellence Award from Michigan State University's Office for Inclusive Excellence and Impact, and the Pinnacle Award for Crisis Communication from the Public Relations Society of America, Central Michigan as part of a collaborative team effort. She was featured in Lansing City Pulse Magazine's People Issue 2024, and is a recipient of the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce's 10 Over the Next Ten Award. In 2018, Dr. Čaluk was recognized as a Community Champion by Choose Lansing!
Dr. Čaluk earned a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and Advertising with a minor in International Business from Grand Valley State University, as well as a Master of Education in College Student Affairs Leadership from Grand Valley State University. She earned her Doctor of Educational Leadership degree from Michigan State University.
She is passionate about preparing students to think critically, communicate strategically and creatively, and become thoughtful, socially responsible communication professionals.
