Kathryn Genoa-Obradovich
Bio
Kathryn Genoa-Obradovich, M.S., CCC-SLP is a speech-language pathologist and current doctoral candidate in the Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders at Michigan State University. She received her B.A. in Communicative Sciences and Disorders from Michigan State University and her M.S. in Speech Language Pathology from Rush University in Chicago, Illinois.
She has almost ten years of clinical experience in evaluating and treating a variety of patient populations within acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, and outpatient settings. Kathryn continues to practice as a medical SLP within a level I trauma center in Detroit, MI. Her favorite area of patient care however involves evaluation and rehabilitation of communication and swallowing in patients who have Head and Neck Cancer (HNC).
Kathryn’s primary areas of research are two pronged – one portion dedicated to healthcare and clinical management of dysphagia and HNC, and the other concentrated on the areas of teaching and education with a focus on gamification. She implements the use of immersive technologies, such as Virtual Reality (VR), across her research. She has completed supplementary certifications in “Serious Game Design” and “Teaching and Learning in Postsecondary Education” to enhance these interests.

Research and Teaching
Kathryn’s research interests can be delineated into two themes:
- Clinical Practice; bridging the gap between research and clinical applicability of medical SLP, centering on HNC and/or dysphagia
- Educational Pedagogy; with an emphasis on use of immersive technology and gameful design in teaching and training of SLP students
