Bio

Becky Zimmerman is a Professor of Practice in the Department of Advertising + Public Relations at Michigan State University. She currently teaches ADV 432: Advertising Innovations and ADV 482: Project Management.

A proud Michigan State alumna, Becky earned her Bachelor of Arts in Advertising and Public Relations from MSU before beginning a career that has crossed advertising, education, publishing, and project management. Her advertising experience includes work with Y&R, Mars Advertising, and RBW, supporting clients such as Lincoln Mercury, Big Y, BB&T, and Dollar Tree.

Becky later spent 18 years in education, teaching K-12 mathematics and college-level courses. She also worked in project management at Macmillan Learning for five years. Her varied professional path allows her to bring perspectives from both industry and education into the classroom. She is particularly interested in helping students understand how technology, changing consumer behavior, and new ways of working continue to reshape advertising careers.

In addition to her undergraduate degree, Becky holds master’s degrees in Secondary Education and Administration and Supervision, as well as teaching and administrative certifications. Returning to MSU as a faculty member has fulfilled a longtime personal and professional goal. She is committed to helping students connect what they learn in class with the challenges and opportunities they will encounter after graduation.

Outside of work, Becky enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, usually in the bleachers at hockey or volleyball. She is also an avid reader, sourdough baker, crocheter, cross-stitcher, and the owner of two very large Bernedoodles.
