The II Symposium of the Latin American Network of Studies in Environmental Communication (Red LECA), titled “Democracy and Environmental Communication in Latin America,” will take place on May 4, 2026, at the University of La Sabana in Chía, Colombia. Bringing together scholars, practitioners, and emerging voices, the symposium explores how communication, democracy, and environmental challenges intersect across the Latin American region.
Set against the backdrop of pressing issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental justice, and the spread of misinformation, the event creates a space for critical dialogue and collaboration. Participants will engage in discussions that connect scientific knowledge with local, Indigenous, and community perspectives, with the goal of strengthening public discourse and fostering more inclusive, democratic responses to socio-environmental challenges.
The symposium also serves as a milestone for the official launch and expansion of the Red LECA Network, aiming to identify key research priorities, encourage interdisciplinary exchange, and build a stronger regional community dedicated to advancing environmental communication in Latin America.
