Academics Overview

Enrollment Requirements

Students must enroll in at least 6 credits from the following options:

  • ADV 402: Public Relations Topics in Advertising (3 credits)
  • ADV 475: Advertising & Society (3 credits)
  • PR 310: DEI in PR and Advertising (3 credits)
  • PR 425: PR Strategy and Ethics in a Digital World (3 credits)
Shared Core Requirements

Everyone must complete the following, no matter which courses they enroll in:

  • Short readings and videos for the program (provided in advance to complete before the trip)
  • Oslo and Sweden scavenger hunt
  • Serve as social media manager for a day, reporting on what we did
  • Serve as MSU thank you liaison for a day (give a thank you gift and note to guest speakers on one day – the
  • gift and note will be provided to students to give on behalf of the group)
  • Instagram posts (at least two images/day with observations about advertising, PR, marketing, retail, etc.)
  • Attendance and active participation in all classes, site visits, receptions, and Zoom sessions
  • Be a positive representative of MSU through intercultural respect and professionalism
Course-Specific Requirements (Final Projects)

For each course they’re enrolled in, students must complete a photo-essay or video specific to that course:

  • ADV 402: Cultural values driving Swedish and/or Norwegian PR
  • ADV 475: Cultural values driving Swedish and/or Norwegian advertising
  • PR 310: DEI trends in Swedish and/or Norwegian advertising or PR
  • PR 425: Ethical standards and policies related to digital advertising or PR in Sweden/Norway
On-Site Experiences

Local faculty and practitioners will lead short lectures, classes, and discussions. The program includes visits to museums, cultural sites, agencies, companies, civic society organizations, government offices, and US embassies. Free days give students opportunities to appreciate the cities and region on their own.
