Tessa Kresch is a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting, as well as a degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Kresch also has been picked as one of the commencement speakers for the baccalaureate degree ceremony for the 2024 fall semester.
Kresch decided on her second major by working at Impact 89 FM, where she found a community of passionate, driven people, many of whom were broadcast journalism majors. As she learned more about the field, the more she wanted to pursue it.
“Their enthusiasm was contagious,” Kresch said. “I’ve always been a curious person who loves telling stories, and broadcast journalism felt like a natural extension of that passion.”
Kresch said she was inspired to give a speech at the ceremony because she wanted to spread an uplifting message to the graduating class.
“After college, we’re all stepping into a world of unknown, kind of like how it feels when we start college, so it’s just a reassuring message that we have the tools, the resources, and the connections to flourish in life,” she said. “The Spartan network is so powerful and it’s daunting, but we’re not alone.”
Kresch is originally from Farmington Hills, Michigan, but moved to Puerto Rico during high school. When choosing a college, Kresch said it was difficult since she was choosing one during the COVID pandemic, but she was drawn to MSU because of the university’s high quality acting department.
During her four and a half years here, Kresch was a senior news producer and podcast host of Exposure at Impact Radio, sound designed multiple plays and musicals and was in the main cast of six productions.
Kresch said her favorite part of the MSU community is the pride all Spartans have. Her advice for incoming freshmen is to join a club, hold on to the friends you make, and take advantage of the opportunities the university has to offer.
Kresch currently works as a reporter for WLNS 6 News and hopes to continue in the broadcast industry after graduation.
