Alumni and friends of the college bolstered emergency relief for students, with Give Green Day campaign 211% funded
In its fifth year, the annual tradition of Give Green Day moved to the spring during the 2020-2021 academic year. The campaign has historically taken place in the fall on Giving Tuesday, but Spartans rallied around the cause to support ComArtSci students on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, more than doubling the goal to fund emergency student needs.
This year, the campaign raised money for the ComArtSci Student Emergency Fund, which directly benefits students who are facing dire need. The fund is used to help with unexpected needs and fees that impact a student's ability to focus on their college studies. Despite all the efforts made to ensure student academic success, sometimes situations arise which create a financial roadblock for student achievement. Small things, like funding the final two-credit course for graduation, make a huge difference.
ComArtSci is focused on providing students with that “little extra” they need to ensure their educational experience is seamless. The Student Emergency Fund accepts donations year-round.
Spartans work hard to earn their college degree, relying on a combination of student loans, savings and part-time jobs to afford higher education. When adversity strikes, like a global pandemic, they may not have the resources to weather the storm. The goal of the Student Emergency Fund is to answer a dire need for students. This fund provides support for those small but critical needs our students have such as textbooks, class credits, and unforeseen expenses that may create a barrier to academic success.
Supporting students with the tools and resources they need to be successful is life changing. When students can’t afford their final credits or housing costs, or other unforeseen expenses that puts their graduation in jeopardy, ComArtSci will use the funds to ensure their career trajectory gets back on track.
