A portrait of Josh Neufeld

J-School Professor Josh Neufeld's immense artistic talents are on display at Journalist's Resource.

Neufeld has created a new feature for the site called "A Tale of Two Pandemics: Historical Insights in Persistent Racial Disparities," in which he uses comics journalism to highlight recent historical research in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

Neufeld teaches two classes asynchronously in MSU's J-School, JRN 213 Comics Culture and Graphic Novel; and JRN 313, Political Cartoons. He is based in Brooklyn, New York.

Neufeld's comics are based on the research of three doctors - Lakshmi Krishnan, Michelle Ogunwole and Lisa A. Cooper - that studied racial health disparities during the 1918 influenza pandemic, but with a look to the future and the impact of COVID-19.

"I let their voices guide the narrative," Neufeld said about the doctors in a Q&A on Journalist's Resource that explains comics journalism. "I'm so grateful that they spoke to me about their article!"
