Bio

Emily is a second-year Ph.D. student in the School of Journalism. Her research focuses on how technology mediates people’s needs, motivations, and behaviors in terms of facilitating collective online phenomena. The contexts of her studies cover social media user behavior, AI-human interaction, civic participation, digital application design, and gender-focused digital content. Methodologically, her ongoing research deploys experiments, surveys, computational, and mixed-method approaches, and she is enthusiastic about advancing scale-development methodology in the communication discipline.

Emily’s teaching specialty lies in visual communication, data journalism, privacy & surveillance in media, and worldbuilding in game design.
