Kristy Piana Schena is the Founder and Executive Director of Kids On The Go, a non-profit organization which provides free therapeutic programs for children and teens with special needs in southeastern and northern Michigan. Her responsibilities include program development and expansion of services, fundraising events, marketing and communications, and managing the day-to-day operations.
In addition, Schena has 25 years of clinical and supervisory experience in the field of speech-language pathology. She has always welcomed students of various specialties with internships and volunteer opportunities—providing them much needed clinical observation hours as well as supervised exposure and experience with the pediatric population they are intending to work with upon graduation. Schena has applied her clinical experience and expertise along with her networking and management skills to create and sustain a nonprofit organization celebrating 24 years of service.
In 2018 Kids On The Go was honored by the Grosse Pointe Chamber for Excellence in Nonprofit Activity and in the same year Schena was recognized by Michigan State University College of Communication Arts & Sciences as an Outstanding Alumni. She joined the Alumni Board Development Committee in 2021. Schena serves on the Leadership Advisory committee for Share Detroit, a community engagement organization that offers ways for nonprofits and businesses in Metro Detroit to come together and strengthen the local communities.
