Bio

Boram “Bo” Lee is a doctoral student in the Department of Media and Information. Her work examines how digital platforms and new technology shape social networks and individuals’ social capital, with an emphasis on structural inequalities rather than individual traits.

She is particularly interested in the intersection of AI’s potential and its perils. Specifically, she investigates how emerging technologies, such as large language models, can empower marginalized communities, while also critically examining their unintended consequences, such as moral panic and policy challenges.

Her primary methodological approach is survey research, which she complements with computational and network-based methods, including multi-level modeling and agent-based modeling.

Prior to joining MSU, Bo earned her Master of Arts in Communication from Seoul National University in 2023.
