Joy Visconti works with journalism classes and clubs throughout Detroit as the director of the MSU Detroit High School Journalism Program, which works to amplify the voices of Detroit’s youth through print and web publications. In 2018, she was a recipient of MSU's Distinguished Partnership Awards for Community-Engaged Teaching for her work with the Detroit high school program. Joy also teaches news writing and reporting classes at Michigan State.
Before joining the faculty at Michigan State, Joy worked in education publishing at the Wall Street Journal. She also has worked as a sportswriter and sports copy editor. In 2014, she received the highest – or maybe lowest – honor for a copy editor when one of her Detroit Free Press headlines was featured on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”
Joy holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in journalism, both from Michigan State.
