Lucia Di Cioco

Lucia Di Cioco is a Ph.D. student in Information and Media at MSU's Knight Center for Environmental Journalism. Originally from Uruguay and previously based in Grenoble, France, she holds a B.S. in Communication Studies with a focus on Journalism from Universidad de Montevideo (2017) and an M.A. in Environmental Communication from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (2025).

Lucia’s background includes working as a science and technology journalist for El Observador (2014-2017), and reporting from the Uruguayan Scientific Antarctic Base during the 2017 summer campaign, followed by professional experience in the corporate sector before returning to academia for her doctoral studies.

 

Her research interests center on environmental communication frameworks through a decolonial lens, with a focus on Latin America, as well as the cryosphere across polar and high-altitude mountain territories. She is particularly interested in how Indigenous relational frameworks and multispecies kinship perspectives challenge dominant environmental narratives.
