Bio

Matt earned his bachelor's in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences & Psychology and master's in speech-language pathology from the University of Connecticut.

Additionally, Matt continues to practice clinically as a speech therapist with the Sisskin Stuttering Center, where he delivers Avoidance Reduction Therapy for Stuttering (ARTS®) to children, teens, and adults who stutter via telehealth. Matt also provides speech therapy to young adults who stutter with Autism and other social-communication challenges, which incorporates principles from ARTS® and the UCLA PEERS® Program.

Research and Teaching

Matt's research interests include strengthening the evidence base for working with people who stutter across the lifespan. He is particularly interested in factors that contribute to resilience in children who stutter and aligning clinical practice of speech-language pathologists with the lived experiences and values held by people who stutter. Prior to arriving at MSU, Matt conducted research with Dr. Emily Myers and Dr. Tammie Spaulding at UConn.

Matt hopes to improve the lives of people who stutter through conducting clinically impactful research about speech therapy approaches that bolster resilience and quality of life through strengths-based approaches.
