Bio

Kim Margolis is an instructor in the School of Journalism at Michigan State University who teaches JRN 493 and JRN 200. She is the internship coordinator for the J-School working to help students secure internships and guide them during their assignments.

In addition, she is the full-time multi-platform adviser for The State News.

During her media career she was a writer for The (Fort Lauderdale) Sun-Sentinel and The Connecticut Post. At the Connecticut Post, she won several Connecticut and Northeast regional Associated Press First Place awards. She held the executive editor position at The (Zanesville, OH) Times-Recorder where she won a national award for a community plan to stop school violence.

At the Dayton Daily News, she also worked as a writer, paginator, copy editor, news editor and digital specialist.

For seven years, she worked as a digital specialist for WHIO, a CBS-affiliate in Dayton. The website she managed earned several best website in Ohio awards. She created a truly viral Facebook post at the DDN, which earned more than 70 million views.

She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Michigan State University. She previously served on The State News Board of Directors.
