Understanding the Land Acknowledgement

The United States’ history of disenfranchisement of Native American Indigenous, and other historically marginalized communities, will take many lifetimes to make amends. Although, as a nation, we have made great strides towards "liberty and justice for all," we are reminded daily of the work that lies ahead in order to achieve it. Part of that work involves uplifting and affirming those whose voices are often muted or dismissed.

Last month, ComArtSci's Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion welcomed Don Lyons for a conversation on our commitment to honor Native land by expanding our understanding of the Land Acknowledgment. Don is a citizen of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibway and a descendant of Six Nations Mohawk. Lyons works as a deputy project manager at Tribal Tech LLC where he is responsible for designing and implementing innovative curricular content for International Indigenous communities.
