Michigan State University’s esports program has rapidly evolved from a small student gaming group into a thriving campus initiative engaging more than 2,000 Spartans annually. What began in 2016 has transformed into a university-supported ecosystem featuring dedicated esports spaces, robust club involvement, and competitive varsity teams in games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Rocket League and Valorant. Spartan players compete at high levels — including national championships — and the program also prepares students for future careers in the growing esports industry.
