Faculty and staff in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences received several university-level awards recognizing contributions to teaching, leadership, advising and community engagement.
The awards are presented annually across the university to recognize faculty and staff for their work in areas such as instruction, research, service and institutional leadership.
Leadership and institutional service

Andrew Corner, interim chairperson and professor of practice in the Department of Advertising and Public Relations, received the Robert F. Banks Award for Institutional Leadership, which recognizes faculty who have demonstrated leadership in advancing the university’s mission.

Monique Turner, chairperson and professor in the Department of Communication, received the Simmons Chivukula Award for Academic Leadership, which recognizes contributions to academic leadership and administration.
Teaching and student learning

Jong In Lim, doctoral student in the Department of Communication, received an Excellence-in-Teaching Citation, which recognizes instructional contributions.

Jessica Pettengill, doctoral student in the School of Journalism, also received an Excellence-in-Teaching Citation.

Jean Hardy, assistant professor in the Department of Media and Information, received a Teacher-Scholar Award, which recognizes the integration of teaching and research.

Thea Knowles, assistant professor in the Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders, also received a Teacher-Scholar Award.
Community engagement and advising

Ross Chowles, professor of practice in the Department of Advertising and Public Relations, received the Community Engagement Award (CESA), which recognizes work with community partners.

Joyce Crandell, office manager and secretary to the director of academic and student affairs, received the Gliozzo Clerical-Technical Recognition Award, which recognizes the contributions of clerical and technical staff.

Our Compassionate Advocates for Retention and Student Success team, Allison Z. Shaw, Jennifer Chesney, Tami Madden and Nicole Acker, received the Collaborative Excellence in Advising Award, which recognizes collaborative efforts to support student advising and retention.
