This spring marks ComArtSci’s 50th year honoring outstanding alumni for their amazing work serving the MSU community and impacting its students. One alumna of note is Norma Fay Green, a professor emerita of journalism at Columbia College in Chicago who received her Ph.D. in Mass Media in 1993 and B.A. in Journalism in 1969 from MSU. In the video above, Green highlights the amazing and challenging parts of her studies as a journalism student in and outside of ComArtSci.
Green got her start in the journalism field as an undergraduate student in the School of Journalism which she was “thrilled” to be a part of. As a student, Green got involved in the honorary sorority, Theta Sigma Phi (later known as Women in Communications), then was hired in a staff position at The State News to cover a wide variety of stories happening in the community. Green went back to school after years of doing freelance journalism in Chicago to get her Ph.D. in Mass Media where she juggled being a teaching assistant, research assistant, doctoral student and freelance journalist commuting to and from Chicago. “Never underestimate the power of perseverance,” said Green.
