Richard E. Augenstein Public Relations Scholarship

The Richard E. Augenstein Public Relations Scholarship recognizes Richard Augenstein who received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1956 from the College of Communication Arts and Sciences. A Lansing resident, he was associated with the Michigan Manufacturers Association where he served as its Vice-President for Government Affairs.

The scholarship will be awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior, majoring in advertising, who is pursuing a public relations minor and/or is active in the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). Public relations master’s students may also apply. The applicant should have a strong academic record. The application letter must clearly indicate interest and intention to pursue a career in Public Relations.

George Brown Scholarship

Every year the Central Michigan Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (CMPRSA) Awards the George Brown Memorial Scholarship to an outstanding PRSSA junior enrolled in a communication-related program of study at Michigan State University. CMPRSA also selects an outstanding student practitioner from among the PRSSA ranks. Both students are honored in April at the annual PACE Awards Program and at the Department of Advertising Awards Program.

PRSSA members interested in the scholarship should fill out the application and submit a resume and at least two letters of recommendation for consideration. Writing and work samples are helpful, but not required.

Students are encouraged to nominate their peers for the outstanding practitioner award. CMPRSA feels PRSSA members are most aware of each other's accomplishments and can offer the best insight for the selection committee as to who is worthy of this award.

The person applying for the scholarship must:

  • Be a PRSSA member in the Ned S. Hubbell Chapter at MSU
  • Have junior standing at MSU by fall

Criteria used for selecting recipient:

  • Leadership in PRSSA and other student organizations
  • Commitment to the public relations field (professional development, education of others)
  • Academic Achievement

If interested, contact PRSSA board member.
