Multiple Scholarships Are Available to Communication Students
The College of Communication Arts and Sciences administers scholarship funds established through the generosity of alumni and friends. The college recognizes several students each year who have demonstrated superior work in the classroom or on the job. In 2017, there were 12 communication undergraduates who won scholarships. In addition, ComArtSci students are eligible to apply for scholarships administered by other organizations. Eligibility and deadlines vary.
Undergraduates enrolled in the Sales Leadership Minor degree program are eligible for several $2,000 scholarships that are unique to this program. These include a Diversity Scholarship, Merit Scholarship, Financial Need Scholarship and Made in Italy Scholarship.
Every year, doctoral students regularly receive communication scholarships from the Department's endowments, from the university Graduate School, and from other sources. A primary source within the Department is the GR Miller Scholarship.
Applications must be submitted to the Undergraduate Student Affairs Office in room 189 ComArtSci. Please be aware that to be eligible to apply, students must have a declared major in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences and have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA.
Applications for the 2017/18 academic year are closed. The application for the 2018/19 academic year will be available in January.

George Brown Scholarship
Every year the Central Michigan Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (CMPRSA) Awards the George Brown Memorial Scholarship to an outstanding PRSSA junior enrolled in a communication-related program of study at Michigan State University. CMPRSA also selects an outstanding student practitioner from among the PRSSA ranks. Both students are honored in April at the annual PACE Awards Program and at the Department of Advertising Awards Luncheon.
PRSSA members interested in the scholarship should fill out the application and submit a resume and at least two letters of recommendation for consideration. Writing and work samples are helpful, but not required.
Students are encouraged to nominate their peers for the outstanding practitioner award. CMPRSA feels PRSSA members are most aware of each other's accomplishments and can offer the best insight for the selection committee as to who is worthy of this award.
The person applying for the scholarship must:
- Be a PRSSA member in the Ned S. Hubbell Chapter at MSU
- Have junior standing at MSU by fall
Criteria used for selecting recipient:
- Leadership in PRSSA and other student organizations
- Commitment to the public relations field (professional development, education of others)
- Academic Achievement
If interested, contact a board member of the MSU PRSSA.
Sales Leadership Scholarships
The Sales Leadership Minor awards several scholarships in the spring of every year for the following academic year, focused on high academic achievement, diversity, financial need and a summer scholarship for participation on the minor’s Made in Italy study abroad program. Each scholarship is $2,000. Qualified students must be admitted to the Sales Leadership Minor, be in good academic standing, and have one full academic year left in their program of study. In addition, competitive scholarships are awarded to the top four finalists competing in the All-MSU Sales Competition held spring semester of every year. A total of $14,000 in scholarships was awarded in 2017.
