Professor Walker is a fourteen-year veteran in media strategy and integrated marketing communications. She is currently a media director at Wavemaker, part of the GroupM network, where she leads a team of 11 in developing media strategies and stewarding budgets for the Dept. of Health and Human Services Covid-19 Vaccine Public Education campaign. Prior to this role, she managed campaign operations and reporting for the U.S. Census, with an advertising spend of more than $325 million. From 2013-2016, she worked overseas in Dubai, bringing to life new advertising touchpoints for brands such as Carefree and Listerine. Walker earned her undergraduate Communications degree from MSU, with a focus in public relations and Spanish.
In addition to her client duties, she is also actively involved in the people and culture team at Wavemaker. Her focus is on diverse recruiting and retention, as well as building stronger culture and teams within her Chicago office. She is committed to creating opportunities for under-represented communities by developing and fostering spaces where everyone can thrive and succeed.
Outside of work, Shalane is mom to an amazing and very talented 12-year-old daughter, Leila, and fosters other girls through the SafeFamilies organization. She is in the second year of her MBA program at Loyola University in Chicago and interned last summer with Proctor and Gamble's brand management team. Shalane earned her undergraduate
When not analyzing spreadsheets, studying, and making to-do lists, she enjoys traveling, reading, and baking. She is a former cheerleader and gymnast and often tries out her skills at the gym from time to time. She is a proud Spartan alumn, and excited to shape the next generation of changemakers.
