Omar Sofradzija (so-FRAD-zee-uh) has been an adjunct instructor at MSU since 2008 and newsroom adviser to The State News, MSU's student-run newspaper, from 2007-15 and since July 2017. During his time at MSU, The State News won the Pacemaker Award -- given to the nation's best collegiate newspapers -- in 2008 and 2009. TSN also won an online Pacemaker in 2014. Also in 2014, the Society of Professional Journalists named TSN as the nation's best college newspaper. Prior to coming to MSU, he was a columnist, reporter and editor at the Las Vegas (Nev.) Review-Journal and the Peoria (Ill.) Journal Star. His reporting assignments included the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans in 2005. Also in 2005, he was honored by the Best of the West competition as one of the best specialty columnists in the western United States. The Chicago native is a graduate of Western Illinois University.
