Kelley Cotter is a doctoral student in the Department of Media & Information. Her primary research area concerns how people become aware of and knowledgeable about algorithms applied in sociotechnical systems and resultant implications for the accumulation of different forms of capital. She is particularly interested in the intersection between algorithmic (il)literacy and digital inequalities. Her work blends several theoretical domains, including software studies, platform studies, human-computer interaction, and science & technology studies.
