Retiring after a 21 year career as a regional healthcare system administrator, Joe Wald joined the faculty at MSU in 2007. As a full time faculty member, Wald teaches senior and graduate level courses in Public Relations, Advertising and Fund Raising and Philanthropy. During his tenure at Sparrow Hospital, Wald served as spokesperson and Director of marketing and public relations, VP of community services and President of the Sparrow Foundation. Wald was accountable for the strategic planning and implementation of all internal and external communications for the Hospital and Health System, a 7,000 member organization with locations throughout mid-Michigan. Additionally he was President of the for-profit subsidiary, Sparrow Development, Inc., and Sparrow Home Care. Wald’s responsibilities included executive oversight of the 1,700 member volunteer organization, all media relations, public policy, customer service, event planning, community health outreach and education and some clinical service oversight. Prior to joining Sparrow, Wald was the owner and operator of a group of precision manufacturing companies in Cincinnati, Ohio, employing 200+ employees.
Wald has an MBA degree from the Harvard Business School and a BA degree from the University of Michigan. He also successfully completed a Healthcare Marketing Fellowship from Northwestern University.
