Charles Steinfield is a professor in the Department of Media and Information at Michigan State University, where he has held a faculty position for more than three decades. He holds a B.A. in Communication from Michigan State University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Communication Theory and Research from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California. Professor Charles Steinfield is an award-winning author of six books and more than one hundred articles published in scholarly venues. He is widely known for his research on computer-mediated communication in organizational settings, e-commerce, social media, and the role of information and communication technologies (ICT) in development. His current work on ICTs and development is funded by the United States Agency for International Development, and he serves at the ICT and Development lead for the Global Center for Food Systems Innovation at MSU. He also is currently studying enterprise social media use with funding from the National Science Foundation.
