Anastasia Kononova didn’t think twice about downloading a popular app that provided tips for expectant mothers. The free app gave her access to a giant forum and website. All she had to do was provide basic info about herself, her baby’s due date, and prospective baby names. While Kononova enjoyed the forum, she dug a little deeper and realized she had joined a site commercially supported by a major purveyor of health and baby products.Read more

Rabindra (Robby) Ratan is an Associate Professor and AT&T Scholar at Michigan State University’s Department of Media and Information. He is also an affiliated faculty member of the MSU Center for Gender in a Global Context, the MSU Department of Psychology, and the MSU College of Education’s program in Educational Psychology and Educational Technology.
