Brown bag talk: The Landscape and Outlook of the Asian Media and Entertainment Content Markets by Sangoak Lee

Monday, November 25, 11:30AM-1:00PM, room 408

In this seminar, the current landscape of the Asian media and entertainment content markets will be discussed from the perspective of media management and strategy. Streaming media and OTT services in particular are creating new markets for media and content companies active in the region which include global players such as Netflix and Disney. This is setting new competitive dynamics in motion. Existing local and regional content players, platform operators and other related industry players in the region are striving to stay relevant. As the global players are seeking to capitalize on this opportunity to harness further growth, the local and regional incumbents find themselves in a position to take either confrontational or collaborative stance. As the landscape varies from country to country, South Korea is emerging as one of the key markets mainly because of its regionally popular entertainment content. Netflix, among the global players, is most noticeably making investment in South Korean content. All these developments are setting the tone for disruptive dynamics and innovation in the Asian media and entertainment content markets.
